Step 1: Lead in

At the beginning of the class,students and the teacherwill sing a song together.

Step 2: Presentation

Activity two: Finding the pronunciation rules

First the teacherwill show them the definition of open syllable and closed syllable. The teacherwill guide students to observe words and ask students“Are they open syllable? Or are they closed syllable?” “Can you find something in common?”to help students find the pronunciation rules.

Step 3: Practice and Production

Activity one: Reading competition

Six students in a group can read the words according to the pronunciation rules in five minutes.

Activity two: Read and Find the house

In this step, the teacherwill ask studentsto read these words again and finish the exercise on the blackboard by themselves.

Activity three: Production

Some new words containing the letters “i” and “o” will be presented on the PPT. Students will try their best to read the new words according to the pronunciation rules.

Step 4: Summary and homework

Summary:The teacherwill lead students to summarize what they have learned in this class.

Homework: The teacherwill design two kinds of homework. The first one is to listen tothe tapeand read the new words. The second one is to find more words containing the letters “i” and “o” from the wordsstudentshave learned before.
