Teaching Objectives:

After this lesson, students will have more interest in learning grammar, and study further by themselves.

How to make students grasp the grammar points and details of this short passage and comprehend it.

How to guide students to apply subjunctive mood in real situation.
Teaching Procedures:
Step 1 Lead-in
Review the real conditional sentence:
If he doesn’t hurry up, he will miss the bus.
He is free, he will ask me to tell stories.
Then ask students some questions with the sentence pattern “Would I ...?’
E.g. Would I have been abroad earlier if I had prepared IELTS long ago?
Step 2 Presentation
Ask students to read this whole paragraph and comprehend the meaning, and pay more e attention to the Italic sentences:
If the roles of perspective had not been discovered, no one would have been able to paint such realistic Pictures.
Guide students to understand how to apply subjunctive mood. Besides, show some examples in this Section:
If I were you, I would go at once.
If there were no air, people would die.
And ask them some questions with the sentence patterns “Was ...?” “Why ...?”
Step 3 Practice
Present a few photos, ask students to describe them with the grammar points they have learnt andtranslate as well. Then ask students to express their regretful things, also with the grammar they learnt in this lesson. Meanwhile, ask students to evaluate other’s description.
Step 4 Production
Ask students to fill in the following blanks. If they do not give right answer, correct immediately.
1.If I had got there earlier, I should/could have met (meet) her.
2.If he had taken my advice, he would not have made (not make) such a mistake.
3.She looked at me as if I had been (be) a stranger.
Step 5 Summary and Homework
Summary: Ask students to think about what they have learned today and then make a summary.
Homework: Ask students to make some sentences using subjunctive mood, and finish the exercise on Textbook after class.
